About Sandpipers, These little shore birds are fun to watch. They seem to be of one mind as they dart around the pond seeming to turn on a dime in unison.

Hard to photograph with any composition. This is the best I came up with. I don't knowif it portrays the way they move through the air.

By the way, This photo has alot better saturation before uploading. I tried several different color profiles includind SRGB but all are desatureated after uploading ???

Nice Pat.....good focus on many birds at once.
Good dof to get this.
The birds stand out well on the dead grass background.

Konstantin

I think UF must be doing some kind of compression/uncrompression to save disk space and that is where the loss ocurs, Just a guess on my part. No matter what color space I used the results where the same. I had another shot of some northern shoverlers that lost alot of detail when displayed on UF. So bad that I had to delete it cause it bothered me to look at it.

I can only guess that I was shooting at f/5.6, (wide open with the 300mm f/4 L IS USM & 1.4X) I am the worst of keeping track of exposuer info.

This shot was also taken that same day.

The effect of lost saturation is pain in the neck. Normally, I do everything in Adobe1998 color space and convert to SRGB after resizing and postprocessing. It helps somewhat but not always...Nothing new to you, I guess.

What's the F-# here?

Hi Pat, hmmmm. I don't know; the saturation looks fine to me, and so does this shot. I like the angle at which you took this one; omitting the horizon works very well her, and gives a true feeling of wildlife. Very well taken.

Cheers,

Hugo
