About These are the burial sites that I spoke of in the last image. Suprisingly considering there are to 170 years old....they are in incredible condition. The one in the foreground does have some area dug up in front of the stone, which is why I cropped the image so close to the stone.

They are surrounded by trees and have no fence to protect them. They are about 10 meters off the side of a main road which sees a lot of heavy vehicles travel along there. And yet there are no obvious signs of damage. They are buried at about 50 years apart from each other. The newer one is at the back.

Wonderful picture, and quiet place. Now, these forgotten "soul" names are traveling arround the world. That is your contribution...
Nice.

This is wonderful Judi... I like the destaurated look on it. Old graveyards and headstones are really fascinating - it makes you wonder about the people they commemorate and their lives, loves, joys and sorrows. I used to live next door to a church and graveyard full of headstones dating back between 100 - 400 years old. It was fascinating to wander the graveyard reading about tragedies of earlier times such as when finding family plots where an entire family seems to have died in short time span. The oldest stones were virtually completely illegible now. There is a village in Derbyshire called Eyam which was decimated by plague and where the actions of the villagers prevented the spread of plague to the surrounding countryside even though it meant 257 of the approx 350 population died within the next 18 months (it makes for very interesting and sad reading if you look on the web). To wander the graveyard there is a very moving experience. Curiously my Doctors surgery was in Eyam! These that you have taken are preserved now for as long as this image exists. Beautifully and sypathetically shot Judi. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful image.

I, too, spent a few years living across from a church and graveyard. It was always very beautiful when the sun shone on the white church. I can relate to what you are saying. Thanks Jan.

Judi, I grew up across the road from a very old and beautiful cemetary. As kids, we spent ours wandering amongst the tombstones, reading their stories and making up our own. To a child, it was a sad yet magical place...I think you have done these 2 a great honor, thanks for sharing their story!!

Thanks Larry. As I said in the previous image...this is all that is left of the town. There are no signs of any other graves...not even of little babies that would have surely perished due to conditions back then.

Are there just the two stones, or are there others Judi? The stone in back wording even looks more legible than this one.....incredible indeed!!

Forgotten Souls & where are you... two brilliant pictures with excellent write ups. Places that time forgot are all around us, most we come upon by accident... those, I find, are the ones full of inspiration & beauty. Thank you for sharing this with us all...

Coincidently I came across this after uploading my picture 'Ruins' with a Poem that I wrote in 2003 concerning this very topic... lol... I don't believe in coincidences... nice to see someone else out here who see's the same magick in the world.
