About Ebbing between color and B&W... Sometimes I like the color version more, sometimes the B&W. Tech info: from the 16 bit/channel TIF conversion threefold with Convert to B&W pro: one for the snow, one for the mountains, and one for the sky and composite with PS and masking. Sharpening after resize.

Hi Carstin,

I honestly have never seen anything as spectacular as this. Just a beautiful scene!

Everything about this is PERFECT. Star sun, dark sky, large expanse of snow, curves, the highlights on top of the peaks...(is this the moon?)

I haven't seen the color one, I'll have to go look at your portfolio.

Can't imagine anything better than this.

Excellent work,
Lori :)

This is really stunning Carsten. I love the selective toning, the composition, and rich detail. A beautiful subject too-- or maybe you made it beautiful? Very nice work. Cheers. Craig

Cessy, thanks for stopping by ! The 10-22 zoom is the only real WIDE lens for the 300D / 20D. Of course, you are restricted to those SLRs, but I plan to hold my 300D for a while (until full frames are affordable). The lens is decent, not as sharp as my 17-40L, but nearly as sharp and it is at least as flare resistant. It is small and light weight, and the lens hood that came with my 17-40L is just right. At the moment, more than 90% of my landscapes are with that lens.

Svend, thank you for your prudent analysis. I appreciate your arguments - B&W is probably the most consequent approach for this motif. Not the eye-catcher as the deep blue/white color version may be, but with a more lasting effect.

This BW tones add surrealistic atmosphere, and since you have the darkest and the brightest tones, I guess it would be better to keep it in BW, especially if you want to enhance the artwork side of this photo. Well...my 5 cents...:)
Great works, excellent composition. Congratulations!

really beautiful, I like both color and BW
great work with stitching vertically 3 photos.
What do you think of the 10-22? I've been thinking of getting one.

Schwierig zu entscheiden...ich kann das gut nachvollziehen...aber hier gehe ich mit der B&W Version, ich finde sie hat Drama und Spannung und etwas magisches...

yep, definitely the b&w. great composition and the b&w really individualises it.

Its funny, when i saw this i immediately thought it was the Blackcomb Glacier, in BC canada, but it now looks too flat to ski on.

Great shot!

Congratulations on a superb image. I can see why you are waffling between the two versions...no right or wrong as others have said..just what mood one is in, as they are both wonderful. Breathtaking, actually. 7++ Antonia

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique An impressive picture, I think I prefer this monotone version. Great clarity and detail. The harsh light and digital process makes for a very electric picture. It has an attractive alpine sterility (can't think of another word to describe it) and the slight perspectival elongation is dramatic. Also, the sun-starring is fashionable these days. Rgds, Svend

Love this too....it's just personal taste B&W v Colour. They are both great, just a matter of taste or mood on the day don't you think? IMHO the sun is wonderful!
Best wishes

It is beautiful but if I had to choose, I'd go with the color version. These are all 7+ for me but because of how the system modifies our ratings, I'm not rating for fear I could bring your average down.

Comparing the color and B&W versions, I have to go with the B&W. Either way, this is an eerie image, one that grabs the eye and holds it. Very nice! I'm not too enamored of the six-ray screen, though. Was that on the camera or photoshopped in?

Nice in B&W, but my personal preference was the one in color. Seems to take from the mood. Just my personal opinion. Still an excellent shot, 7/7
