About Most photos of cardinals seem to favor the male because of his brillance. This litle girl, however, is as beautiful as any I've seen. I used fill flash employing a Nikon speedlight 800 at 40'. I haven't done much of this but after seeing this photo I'm going to do it more often. Please provide a critique on this technique used here.

Hi Lee,

I like the way fill in flash works with birds as well. It really makes them stand out against the background. Allthough, sometimes it seems a little too much, giving them a kind of pasted in 3D look. (not the case in this shot)

Andre, the bill was that bright. Birds are very much like people. We all have color variations. Some are due to age. Some are due to diet. I think the fill flash helped eliminate the frontal shadows that would have been there without the flash. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Lee,

Was this bird's bill that bright, or did you apply a little makeup to it? I was taking some shots of some female cardinals on the weekend and they had paler bills. I guess they are all a little different?

I really appreciate your comments. Thank you for taking the time. I've been looking at yout portfolio and you have some really good looking shots there. Please don't hesitate to make critical comments as well. I really need a sharp eye from a different perspective good or not.
