No the flash controls the picture it only last for 1/5000 of a second. Duration of the flash is very brief much faster than normal shutter speeds.

A very creative idea! The colors are rich and vivid. The water drop seems to be suspended in mid air! Good work.

Wonderful, clever, creative, what can I say. Such an excellent and colourful composition and the droplet is just perfect. It is most generous of you to share your techniques, much appreciated, even though it still needs an excellent photographer to execute such a shot. Margaret

Dan, thanks so much for explaining your technique. I love the idea, but would not have thought of it myself! The focus is just perfectly sharp, the off-center composition much more interesting than straight on. Amy

This is my set up for shooting water splash drops. I use a light off to the side camera is set up with a 28-70mm zoom lens and a 25mm extension tube. First set up a pan to catch any over splashing then place a bowl in the pan . On top of the bowl place a colorful plate. I used a Sponge Bob Square Pants Plate. Fill the plate with water. Next figure out where you want you drops to fall on the plate. I use my water bottle. I place it on the plate where I want the drop to hit ,it has writing on the side , I prefocus the camera on the writing . In this image I focused right behind Sponge Bobs Tie. Now take the water bottle and get a steady series of drops falling , don?t try to time the drops with the shutter , you cant. As the stream of drops are falling press the shutter release , I use a remote release but you don?t have too. Take a number of pictures then check the results and pick out the best drops, Camera was set at Shutter 1/200 second and aperture at F22.
