Gotcha. Well, great shot and great snout!

If I stopped down to f8 it would still be out of focus because the nose was literally right on the lens.

Does the lens let you change the aperture? Just curious if stopping down to f8 would get the nose in focus.
I'm not too sure about your set up though... I'm sure you've tried everything that you could!

I agree; unfortunately the eyes are at the closest focusing distance for the lens; I have a few shots where the whole face is in focus or just the nose but the perspective isn't the same. I would need to either use a FF (instead of my 1.3x crop) camera to get distortion at a further distance or use a fish-eye.

I love this type of low angle super wide portrait... there's just something so comical about it. I wish that your DOF included his nose though, as your title suggests, it's all about the nose. To have that sharp as well would have been the icing on the cake.
Great detail and sharpness in the eyes though, which is the main focus of portraits... looks like a cute dog!

It would be nice to have a slight backround blur, but in your shot, the point of focus is the first thing that catches the eye, so the backround is not really a factor as it could be in other shots, I actully never really noticed it, only that his nose was slightly blurry and your point of focus was well detailed, a effect that I actually really like......

Yes, at f4. Tought shot to get, the dog didn't want to sit still and it was very hard to keep the focus on the eyes. Does the background bother you? Most people don't seem to mind it but I wish I either had the whole room blurred or just the plain wall.

very cute shot, I love the reflection in the eyes which seem to be the main subject, looks like you had your 17-40 at F/4, very well done. Love it....
