I didt think this up, but what I do is to look at pictures on other websites and I anylise the picture , kind of pick it apart and disect it . I figure out the lighting and camera angle then I try to copy and improve on what I see, It use to take me weeks to work out tecnique now I can do it on somethings in minutes. I t all comes down to taking a lot of pictures and moving the light and trying diferrent things, And most important when you try a technique and it doesnt work , which at first is most of the time, dont give up do it again ,Remember if you are shooting digital it is costing you nothing but your time.

No the canon 50mm 1.8 the extension tube gives it the close focus power with no loss of sharpness. Best investment you can make.

Oh, I'd say this is more of a '301-level' class, Dan. All the 'photo 101' stuff I find elsewhere is filled with such helpful information as, "when it's really dark in the room, it helps to use a flash."
;)

This is the set up I used, Main light off to the right is a Britek 200,Places about 2 feet away. The camera is only 5 inches from the Purple flower and about 12 inches from the Yellow flower.I use a 25mm extension tube with the 50mm lens to get very close. I do not use water for the drops I use Purell hand sanitizer, it's crystal clear and much thicker than water. You need to angle the light so that it is brighter on the yellow flower than the purple flower . This is so it shows well in the dropplet.
