Thank you Hermen for taking the time to comment on my image. I realised the forground was out of focus when I viewed it on my monitor, which was a disappointment, as I thought I had set the aperture at around f11,which would have brought the forground into focus :( Still thats the learning curve - double check your settings!
The shadow on the background is because I had it placed too close, as you have pointed out.

I think it would be more appealing to have also the stones in the foreground in focus. This would require smaller aperture and thus longer shutter time - but you did use a tripod anyway, didn't you ? There seem to be some shadows in the background (or are they out of focus branches?) They are a bit distracting to me, you may get rid of them by changing the lighting or the background position.

Yes the colours are fine, but still disappointed with the DOF.
