You've seen those motivational photographs with the uplifting sayings, there actually is a really cool site that uses the same style photos but with demotavational sayings instead. I just went one step further and took a creepy photo for my first stab at it.
Photo of figurene was shot heavily back lit with white background. 1/50sec, f/5.6, ISO 200.
In Digital Image Pro 10, I converted to b/w, duped the photo into two layers, difuse glow on background layer, 50% transparent then applied pencil sketch filter to the top layer.
