About When I saw this scene, I knew it was special. I had to run back to my truck to get a 300mm lens, which I thought was the best choice for this shot. I used my Nikon 300mm f/4d ED-IF lens. I set the aperture to f/13 to get adequate DOF so all would be in focus.

excellent fotograph Ronnie. the light and the bird -- all work for a very nice foto. Linda, Ronnie is right on the money regarding high ISO from the D100. If you expose the scene well, you can really crank up the ISO. before I switched to film, I used the D100 (still have it :) and regularly fotographed at ISO 400 and 800. this foto was made at ISO 400... http://www.usefilm.com/image/658256.html sorry for the ramble :)

well nice foto Ronnie!

Hello Linda,
About the noise levels on the D100. Yes, in underexposed images it can produce considerable noise. I have shot up to ISO-800 successfully, but you have to keep the exposure on the light side. Remember the D100 is old technology in the world of digital at over 4 years old. I shoot 99% of my images at ISO-200.

Awesome image, totally, love everything about it and I can see why this got an award...I've never seen anything like this, it's beautiful and I'm so glad to see you on the front page too, very well deserved..Congratulations...I looked at your portfolio and see that you have many wonderful images...and I see also that we are using the same camera...can I ask if you have problems with noise at higher ISOs...and darker images..I can't go above 200 on my ISO without problems and have heard the same from others...would be interested to hear from you on this...again very well deserved award...congrats....:):)Linda

I thought that these look familiar, I shot a group of these along the Natchez Trace returning from Horn Island. What a great area and trip that was!

Paul,

These trees are Bald Cypress. They however do coexist with the tupelo. Swamps in S. Louisiana are normally referred to as Cypress/Tupelo swamps.

Another excellent photograph, are these Tupelo's or am I way off on the ID of these trees? Just a wondering Yankee. Great job.

Stunning photo and a well-deserved award, Ronnie! I love water-cypress, with their big fat feet in the water, but not only do you have that, you have the wonderful golden light, the reflections, and the beautiful water bird! Congratulations on an outstanding image!
