Hi, I was looking at all the comments and saw that you said you were camera shopping?. I'm no pro at this, in fact I just started back in August. I was shooting with a Kodak easy share also and went to a Canon Powershot Pro1. It is a nice camera and what I really like is the LCD screen flips out and revolves so it is easier to do self portraits because you can see what you are shooting. It also has a self timer with a remote control so you dont have to reach up, press the button and get back in position. There are alot of good features to it. Look on the internet for it and see what you think. The one thing I have not quite got yet is the action shots with it. But I am still working on that. Oh! It takes great shots in low light and no flash also. I have a porfolio if you would like to look at it. By the way, great image here.

If you liked those, try putting David Bailey in your search engine. He did some amazing stuff in England in the 60's and 70's, right up 'till today in fact. They even based a movie on his life called "Blow-up". I actually don't know much about photographic history, I'm just trying to get a handle on something other than landscapes myself, and I remembered this guy from the sixties. Yes I am THAT old, and yes it is amazing that I can remember ANYTHING from that decade!!!!! Hahahahahahaha.

I like this direction for you too. If you want a different take on the minimalist fashion/portrait look, check out the Fall 2004 edition of Flare (Canada's Fashion Mag). There is a pullout section called "Celebrating Canadian Beauty", the photos are all B+W's taken by Bryan Adams (the rocker from the 80's and 90's).

My goal is the Canon Digital Rebel...it's light..fast...I like the images I've seen from it..also..it's more affordable than.. say...the Nikon D10...I have a Canon..not digital..but it's a great camera..I just have no patience for film anymore..so I use my Kodak for instant gratification..

let me know when you start your camera shopping. i've been going through that for the past couple of years and now i find myself with 4 medium format cameras and a few 35's. i can at least help you with the pros and cons of each... as well as help you find good prices :)

Audra, Very nice self-portrait. You hair color works well with you shirt. The pose is very nice also. I have a couple selfportraits in mt portfolio but I don't think they look as good as yours!

Thanks...I like my new direction too...This site is so great..being a part of this little community is teaching me so much..I can actually view myself getting better..losing fear of teying new things! This was hard to shoot...if you can imagine...it was taken with a Kodak easyshare camera..set up on my dresser..no flash..no "lighting"..just sun through a window..and a timer. Wait till I get a real camera..I'm gonna knock my own socks off.

Hm. I've been following this discussion, and reflecting on your style, Audra. I think I can put my finger on it (if you'll pardon the expression) - your have great modelling features, but with a bad attitude. I like that. Great photo, this.

very nice image.. crisp color reproduction and powerful pose. it's a bit soft but i think it's most likely the scan. the highlights on the top are also a bit blown out. i like the direction that your images are going. :)

"W' - isn't that the one you need a fork lift to carry home? You have good taste - i'll flip through it - haven't for awhile. I just look through French and Italian mags and still get uninspired....... It's not like THE 80's !!! (Herb Ritts, Matthew Rolston, Philip Dixon, my "Photography dudes of inspiration") -hehehe

ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!! You ever model seriously??? My "ex" modeled in Europe for years before coming to Canada, and she often threw that look when I photographed her. Maybe you missed a potential source of $$$$$$$$$$ to support your "Art" addiction. Bt the way this image works on a photography level too .... well composed, and effectively lit.
