Abel, DOF is short for Depth of Field. If you have a manual override camera you can adjust the aperature of the lens to open or close. This is the f stop number that appears on the dial/menu of the camera. The higher the f stop the further open the aperature is meaning that more light comes in but also DOF is 'reduced' -- the range interval between the camera lens and infinity that will appear in focus will be smaller. If you close down the aperature completely to the lowest setting, the aperature will approach that of a 'pinhole' camera and all objects whether near or far will appear in focus -- but you will have to make a longer exposure to compensate for less light coming in. I hope this makes sense, but you can find more info in any photography book...
