About I was paging through Elliott Erwitt's collection of dog photos the other day. I think it primed me to dig up this shot from last summer (since I'm not out shooting in the cold weather, it's a good time to take stock of my negatives that piled up over the summer..;). I found this guy in the gay district (is that PC?) near downtown Toronto and snapped it with my wide-angle lens. I liked his resolve in standing watch while cars whizzed by in this clearly urban area..:)

...looks Erwitt to me - too bad more folks don't pour over the masters work - there is nothing at all wrong with trying to emulate the best - if done with an open mind and a twist of ones own those emulating images can really stand on their own - good eye here - wish I had one of those to look after my bike while I'm in getting a brew.. He he he :) I like it as is but one thing I've noticed more and more with shots like this, is taking at different angles to eye level are usually much more effective. A fellow photographer who is a pro once said to me "Every good photographer carries a black plastic bag, why? So they dont get dirty when lying on the floor" Always stuck in my mind that one :)

So you're going to make me get some of that "urban gum" on my elbows before you give me the thumbs up, eh?..;)

I like the composition but for this really to be effective, lying on the floor would have given an excellent perspective IMHO. At the moment its taken from eye level which is ok but from the floor it would have been a real winner.
