I did this one in ten minutes. If I was going for a keeper I would do it over but it 's a good example.

Pete: Try this, WIll see if I can explain and make scense,

1. open you back ground image
2. Open your foreground image (these files should be the same or very similar in size)
3. Use the rectangular marquee toll and select you entire foreground image and do edit/copy
4. close your foreground image.
5. goto you background image and do, layer/new layer from copy (now you should see your entire foreground image. it is a layer overtop of your background)
6. Use rectangular marquee toll and select the entire image.
7. Use the Polygonal Lasso toll, Set the tool to "Subtract from selection"
8. Set your feathering to 25 pixcels (this setting depends on the resolution of your image, you made need to experiment with differnt feathering settings)
9. Outline your foreground subjects, ( you don't have to be real exacting, follow the contour, don't put the line right on the edge of the owl. be about 5 - 10 pixcels outside the line (again, pixcels depend on resolution)
10. use your eraser tool, set the size of the tool so it is the size of a half dollar. Begin erasing the unwanted foreground layer to reveal you background. when you are near the owl don't use a stroke motion, place and click.

You will need to play with this a while and get used to it, You can also adjust your blending options.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your comments. Believe me I have tried numerous times to master the composite process, but still coming up short I guess. I have tried a new technique on my latest submission (same subject) and would appreciate you taking a look to see if it is any better in your opinion.
Thanks,
Pete

This one however still bothers me. the cut and past are obvious. When you outline the subject use some feathering, you will have to play with how much, now the cut and paste or layering will blen better.
