About	My wife received white roses at Thanksgiving. I wanted to film them with a dark background to bring out their lovely white color. This was my attempt, but I am not totally satisfied. Advice or suggestions on how to improve the effect are most welcome. Del.

Del, I think that if you shot this on a black background and, with the right lighting setup, you could create a beautiful shot.
Dont know what options you have with the 3100, but if can use an off camera flash with it, that might help.

Not only did your wife receive a gorgeous bouquet Del but you captured them quite elegantly and the backdrop is complimentary. Would not change a thing.

Did you use a flash? The only way I can get a dark background is by backlighting and underexposing a little. But I'm not sure what features you have on the 3100. I think it would be nice with a black backgound also. Maybe some of these people on here that know PS can help you with that.

Del IMHO this shot is better as it is. With the dark leaves a dark background would be too much. All you'd be left with is the white of the blooms. To me the timbered backing is perfect.
