About LANG CO, 68 km south of Hue City in Vietnam is now a reputable Beach Resort. But that is one hand. On the other hand, local residents must work harder and harder to keep their heads above water. Even kids, many of them are spending more time doing anything to earn money than in class.

This is the picture I took of a girl raking clamps to sell for foods. It was 6:00 pm July 1st, 2004. When I asked her how long has she been working today, the answer was "since sunrise, except lunch time".

Carla:

Thanks for your comments, and your concern. She is 12 years old.
When I asked if I can take picture of her, she said no. Then I asked "what if you rake 10 new clamps, then I would paid VN$15,000 for them". At this offer, she made ten in about 15 minutes. During that time, she didn't even pay attention on my camera, while I kept asking her other questions about her age and family as to distract her.

FYI, VN$15,000 equals US$1.00 and the amount she got from me maybe worth half-day payment of laboring for an adult.

Thanks again, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Wow you have captured a great sense of culture and emotion. The girl looks very young, did you happen to get her age? As an American, I cannot relate, however I do appreciate their need for survival. She seems unmoved by your cameras presence. You picked up a great reflection in the water. Great cultural work!
