Congratulations on front page Jurgen! I love this image, you captured in so well in wonderful light and I really like your composition! I have a son and grandson in Tucson and I'm going to see them this Friday, this image of yours made me even more excited!
I think you have an intresting subject here. However there are some problems. First, the lighting is a bit harsh which casts, in my oppinion, Too dark of shadows in the grooves of the Cactus. As far as the orientation of the photograph, turning the camera to portrait position rather then landscape(Horizonatal) provides for a better picture in this circumstance. By doing this and pulling back on the zoom a little you can avoid static that the Cactus currently provides by going up the center of the shot.
