About
This is an experimental shot playing about with the white balance features of the Canon 300D. At my location I suffer from very bad light pollution and this target was only just above the horizon soaked in a horrible brown sky. As an experiment I took a picture of a sodium street lamp and used this to set the custom white balance of the camera. I then hooked up the camera to my Meade 8inch Schmidt Newtonian Telescope and took a single shot at ISO800 at prime focus (i.e. with no eyepiece in the light path)The only post processing I have done is to use the autolevel feature in Photoshop to make the sky darker. There is some vignetting due to the fast f4 of the scope.
A little info about the subject:
The Orion Nebula (M42) is situated in the belt of Orion. It is a gas cloud made up mainly of Hydrogen and illuminated by four stars in the centre called the Trapezium.
Excellent capture Nidge, also heading Otley way this morning ... Corner Cafe requires another visit ;-)
I will head down to the river and get a few photos and play with the IR again. I have learned quite a bit recently and need to play with the white balance in custom mode and see what effect it has.
Just when we think we have conquered the white balance attacks us all lol
