About I thought of Tolkien but then I would I am only a 5th generation pakeha here. He may be an old maori god. Not the earth mother Papatuanuku. She is a she. Tangaroa of the sea is male, my only guess is Ruamoko who does volcanoes and earth quakes and possibly then little bits of rock falling off into the sea.
The place is punakaiki on our wet and lush, largely uncolonized west coast below the southern alps.
But his name may be lost.

Largely uncolonized doesn't mean uncolonized yes the west coasters are still in my opinion of the same species and with the roading system things are getting better and better.

ah the pancake rocks. They are sedimentary, compressed then raised from the sea floor and eroded back again.
what do you mean largely un colonised, surely not uncivilised hey the best export for the coast is the people!!

That's cool. Way cool. We had a rock, once in Illinois. I threw it in the woods.

Nature is so strong. I like the way the seas and the wind have carved away at the cliffs.

Now that is interesting! I love rocks like those, be they supernatural or not. The image also captures the green light of the locatation which really helps set the mood. The vegatation also does a great stand in for hair! Thanks for sharing. JB
