About I can't say how I did it but this is a shot taken panning again with the 1000mm combination focal length. The light is very warm as the sun was approaching setting in the west.

Patrick: The bird is gliding in with all its surfaces (feet included) turned out to catch air and slow it down. Ducks are very powerful flyers and can explode instantly out of the water without having to run like other birds. I have further frames of this duck coming in but this was the most interesting of them.
