10 or so? Not that many, I think. I looked a long time at that dead bird, and I thought it was great, but the picture ate all my words, I didn?t know what to say. Maybe death is a difficult subject? Keep up the good work ... you are great, and you know it!

Thanks, I hope you have a nice weekend as well :)

Beautiful portfolio Patrick, nice work. Professional is not so much wether you are paid or not, it's an attitude and a commitment to your own personal best. Very professional work here. Regards, Dottie

Patrick Jacobson   {K:29151} 10/14/2004
Thanks alot Karen for your analyze and comment! =) Infact i didnt do anything to the picture.. i made it overall abit lighter i think.. but very little. Then i cropped it.. didnt do anything else. I used a flash on this photo as well.. but worked abit more with the placement. I agree on the necklace.. can distract yes. They wasnt really modelling for me.. we met for other reasons and i just asked them if i could take some photos.. Ive had 2 sessions with them now.. we spend like 30 minutes or so max.. so ill get around 10-15 shots.

I will ask them soon if we can do some really planned shots.. will be fun! Havent done many planned photos yet.. most are snapshots!

Cheers and take care my friend!

Okay, see I saw this one yesterday, and for some reason thought I left a comment...

I know that most people will say that the black background is overrated and too overused. But for a shot like this, I think it would actually work for its benefit-speaking of above the hair-I am wondering if you made it lighter to bring out details in the hair? But you really don't need it since you really want your viewers to look at the subject's expression and feel the emotions-not just to show a typical portrait. As my friend David had told me in one of my shots, the necklace can be distracting the viewer's eye. You know if it catches their eye then they may lose their thought proces.. Oh, did you do anything to the forehead area? It seems to appear softer than the rest of the face. I do like the pose, and the dark eyes as sadness creeps over him, I'm thinking a tighter crop may even work out better... Great work with your new portraits Patrick, looking forward to seeing more~

Hi Patrick,

it's always difficult to comment on portraits, at least for me ;-)

I like the general dark setting, and the way the "model" looks at the bottom - kind of depressed/sad. there's only one small "issue": the pattern in the lower left. I would probably erase this, looks like a finger print =)

anyway, good job, my friend.
take care,
thilo

Patrick,
I don't think you need any more comments to know that this is a really great shot. Apart from the title, I think the composition is excellent with the dark, empty bottom left corner. To me the brighter light from behind suggests the beautiful memories of the past; the dark suggests the depressing present and future.

good use of light also.

Very solemn, and dark. I think with the pose, and the dark colors and tones, it portrays a time of great sadness. Very powerful portrait.
