About Another old time, the DC-3, or C-47 Dakota, also used for hauling goods up north. It's amazing how long these have been flying, the first ones having been built in the 1930's. No, I wasn't around then either!

Take a look at this photo, on which I commented some time ago and you'll understand how I guessed that some kind of plane (in this case the Spitfire) would be your favorite.
Thank you for your friendly coments on my "Playing with lights", my "Gimme a kiss" and my "Early Chritmass gift", taken especially for you.
Best reegards and an early Merry Christmass,
Rafi

One of my all-time favourite aircraft.

I took lot's of slides and prints of these 'planes in the 1970's and '80s when they were regularly used for local cargo flights in the south of England. Shame you can't post the sound as well!

If I ever get the chance I'd like to fly one.

Neil

Your "Dakota", bsides being an excellent photo, has a special meaning for me, Dave. When I was already an MD, I volunteered for a parachute unit and jumped a little less than 20 times out of that plane. The feeling after the initial fear, when the canopy is already open above you can be compared to nothing I know.
Thank you, my friend, for your understanding comment on my "Reflection in Tel Aviv".
Regards,
Rafi

Great capture Dave, they really are a workhorse - still see them flying around in the UK from time to time :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

I wasn't around in 1930 but I've flown in these. In places where they clear the chickens and pigs off the dirt runway before takeoff. I think they'll last forever.

Well, I was around in the 30's, although I lived closer to Boeing than Douglas, and wouldn't have known an airplane except as a toy in my playpen. There was also a navy version called R4D, I think. The goony birds go on and on without any forseeable end.

Very nice exposure. I can never manage a blue sky. Polarizer? Great details, too. Very well captured and presented.
