Hi Wilhelmina,
Noisy is the same thing as 'grainy' in film photos. I guess that's the best way I can explain it. Not a smooth photo, mainly in the lighter areas. Due to both a faster ISO plus a longer exposure.
Hope this helps! Glad you liked this image.
Lori :)

Thank you Lorri ... comming from so much experience ... that is doubly special ... :) What does "noisy" mean? I too like doing boat pic's. have a few on this site.

What a nicely composed seafaring shot. A little unobtrusive noise, but still a nice sky background to sillhouette the this old ship details.

Lots of mood and memories in this picture. Great tones and light and superb colors. Love the framing and composition asswell. Only thing that bothers me a little is that lamp that can be seen. Brings me back to the real world instead of dreaming of pirates.. hehe.. =) Still a very good photo. Cheers and thanks for your fine comment on my photo!

Regards,

Patrick J

Hi Beverly,
Thanks for the comments, yes I agree about the light! I agonized over it, maybe I will give that a try. I haven't made a print from it yet since I didn't want the light in it either! :)

Wow Lori, this is wonderful. I love the detail of the rigging against the beautiful sky. Nice shadow detail and composition. My only nit is the electric light in the upper rigging, sorta detracts from the feeling of old world. Easy fix in PS though. I bet the print of this is fantastic!

A magnificent image Lori!!! Sometimes the content and force of an image transcends technical issues involved in capturing it. And that is what you have accomplished here. Very well done!!!

Hi Lori, moody picture, very well done, like the color as well as the composition. Lovely the romanticly pastel colored sky offsetting against the dark structures of the ship enhancing them and giving it a gloomy maybe even threatening presence. Reminds me that life was hard and dark for those who had to sail before the mast at those times. Good the detail in the shadows. great work! Noise I see only around the ropes. It does not harm the picture much. Best regards Jorg

Hi Richard,
YES...I didn't like that light either, I'd probably make a mess of it while trying to get rid of it though. (maybe I should have given it a try)

Lori :)

Hi Lori! The bright, beautiful sky makes a good contrast to the dark foreground. Lots of mood here :)

This brings me in the atmosphere of a "Pirate Movie". Great shot Lori.
Beautiful perspective and composition. I like the dark tones against the lovely blue sky.
The noise doesn't bother me at all. The image is great the way it is.
Excellent, Lori!!!

Probably the most sybolic and effective of the lot. It really exudes old nautical charm. Just one thing . . . lose the flood light. That was not original equipment! Or is that bright spot something else?

Lori,
My eyesight must be much worse than before - but I can't see the noise! :-)
I loved this series of yours and you can bring them back anytime. Strong silhouettes, softened by a pastel sky- beautiful work.
