About Subject Background: You see the New Museum in Nuremberg. I personally like the difference between the two persons in the front, the reflections showing a parallel universe and the somehow surreal sky. I also like the differences in geometry here. Shooting is part of a mini UF meeting with Carlheinz (actually playing the role of the silhouetted man) and Chrissie.

Photoshop concept: Conversion into BW (day was very dull), then back to RGB. Used color balance to get a more blueish look. Worked on the reflections. Mild Crop.

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

An incredible perspective Thilo, the composition is superb and the reflections are absolutely amazing.

Very well spotted but extremely well taken.

The desaturation work is brilliant :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Dear Erik,
thanks for giving me the "silhouette merging" hint. you're right on that.

Thilo,
I like everything here except for the way the person in the lower left "merges" with the advertising sign. They both lose power in this way. Otherwise this is a very cool building tunnel shot.
Take Care,
erik

you're probably right about the sucky model issue =)

I like the message of this picture, Thilo and possible stories this pictures can tell;
what I find most interesting from the technical point of view is the connection between the sky and the building - it is quite sift and I like it :-)
well done
regards
Lukasz

Hi Thilo! Fantastic photo! I really enjoy the way you composed the curves and lines, also the reflections are so interesting and opening up a whole new view. Very good!

Hi Ursula,

ohne weitwinkel ist da wenig zu reißen in der gasse ;-)
mir gehts ja nicht wirklich um dokumentarische dinge, ich will nur hemmungslos übertreiben =)
more to come.

Dear Pedro,

thanks for the creative rework. actually, I already did a lot with the geometry in Photoshop ;-)
your version is more plain, mine is more crazy. I like both =)
as for sharpness: As I explained to Hugo, I had to remove a lot of grain that came from adding light to the scene. Normally, this image would be a lot more detailed ;-) you did well in changing that.
thanks for the work, my friend.
take care,
thilo

Dear Hugo,

you're probably right about contrast and details. To be honest, I did a lot on this image... especially in the noise area as this image was heavily underexposed. shouldn't trust the camera =) therefore I lose some detail here.
As for the alternative: Thanks for the comment. I'm sure that it's 50:50 for this one and the uploaded one as people like the total abstract or not. I wasn't sure so I just uploaded this one as an alternative.
As for PS: try your idea. At the moment, I'm also working with foto filters (PS CS) and with Nik Color Effects Pro which also has a lot of duplex style filters.
thanks for the constructive comment,
Thilo

Hey Brad,

just small complaints ;-)
1. haven't found the perfect standard lens yet. still waiting on my sigma 24-125mm and hope that it fits well with the D70.
2. white balance gives me sometimes a headache.
3. still struggling with sharpness sometimes, guess that comes from the rather old lenses I tested.
4. minor things like the monitor as a view-only gadget, the place for the AF light (not placed well for big lenses), no holder for upright format..

but all in all, a great cam for the price. =)

hello my friend ... I do love the way my eyes are driven by the lines specially on the curve building, I like also the presence of persons on it .... to me two smal things I do to it...putting this hall on left of screen paralel with vertical and give it some more sharpen (you know I am a sharpen fan :-) !!!!! ...regards.

also diesmal habe ich viel Spaß an der Weite (Höhe) inklusive der Menschen.

Hi Thilo, The translucency of the curved face is unrivalled. The reflection widens the view tremendously. In a way, the people in it place the buildings into perspective, but I think a tad more contrast and details in the shape of C. would be nice.

Scrolling down, I think the second one you posted has a much stronger impact. I think the absence, and the exagerrated angle makes this shot my absolute favourite. Much more tension and dynamism.

About the PS concept, Why not use adjustments and hue / saturation. Check the colourise checkbox, and slide the saturation to the left, and select the colour with the hue. It's easier, and more flexible.

Cheers,

Hugo

Nice shoot, but the model on the LHS sucks. Great reflections.

dark vs light -- and then the mystery person coming up behing -- good or evil we don't know and it looks like a storm coming in the sky area .. good concept with a good result -- I love that sky -- great smooth tons in the building and glass on the right .. Kev
