About Every day we have to struggle for survival... we are tied into our daily business... we have to play roles we don't like... like these statues that struggle to get out of their skinny jail.

Comments are appreciated a lot.

Effective grey tones here matching the grey existence of your "mummies". Again, great eye Thilo. That's a wrap!

Dear Gayle,

thanks for the inspiring comments. Really love to hear your opinions. The scream comparison is great... I think that the left statue is the strongest in this setting.

Dear Hugo,

first of all: thanks for the lenghty and creative comment. I see that you have problems nailing down the justice. To be honest, the whole series from the exhibition (body plant etc.) is creepy and I thought long about posting it. It seems that it was the right choice because I can't get more than feedback like yours: playing around with the subject, working thru different opinions... that's the biggest compliment for me.
thanks for joining your creativity and skills.
take care,
thilo

well i am in the "Love it" camp!..read hugo's comment and funny, but i thought of "The Scream" painting instantly upon seeing your image..i also thought of the homeless whom way too many people see as faceless and find easy to ignore..this image makes you think and has much impact..technically i like the lighting and the sepia toning..good one!..my best to you, gayle

Hi Thilo, First of all, thanks for your comment. I had to take a break for a while, but It was time to return...:)

I find this a bit difficult to assess, and don't quite know where to start.

The atmosphere is very strong; bound by the burden of life, but also quite ghostly and ominous. Extremely strong tension in this photo for sure... I like the near B&W in this one, emphasising the grim and gloomy mood. The dark background with the structure in it, quite geometrical, creates a very good contrast, not only by its tone, but also because of the change in shapes, from the chaotic, almost organic foreground to the rigid, heavy construction with its geometrical shape in the background.

Still, there's something missing in this shot. Not sure what it is. I think the "thing" that is missing also creates a part of the tension, not only by the physical shapes, but also because of the unsettling absence. It could be the slight unbalance in the composition, but that too fits with the atmosphere, which gives this image it's impact. Hope you see what I mean. For once, I can't quite put my finger on it. Basically the same why I find Munch's "Scream" so enthralling. It's not perfect, but that lack makes it intriguing and gripping. It's not appealing, but that's why this photo makes me ponder about it so much.

I think there's only one conclusion. Either you hate this shot, or you love it. I think it's the latter...

Cheers,

Hugo
