Thank you - I'm already aware of the ISO noise problem, and Neat Image, and such. This series of photos was exploring the limits of what the camera could give me in available light. Cats and young children sometimes react poorly to flash, so I was curious just what the camera could cope with when pushed. I mainly use iso 200 with flash when I have the option, but Neat Image does a surprisingly good job when I need it.
Jenny , I thought I'd bring to your attention , in the event that you are not aware , the issue of using high ISO with the D70 . It's been my experience that best image quality results are difficult to achieve using anything over ISO 400. Once you cross ISO 400 , digital noise becomes a very serious problem ,and it can be very difficult ( if not impossible ) to correct . With this photo ( and several others that you have posted ) , a great image has been seriously degraded by an abundance of pink / red dots ( noise ) . There is software available to help with this , but you will likely be way further ahead to change your ISO setting ( 200 is by far the best ) , and alter your lighting and shooting style . Have fun with the D70 :)
