Thank you very much Roel, I'm flattered that my photo inspired you. My moon shots are taken with the help of my telescope and a special camera mount.

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for commenting on my moon photo " Destination Zeta". I'll tell you a secret, what inspired me to take that shot is because I saw your shot way back, but just didnt leave a comment, I was new to USEFILM and was so "scared" to leave a comment. But I copied your shot, and really I cant make it, you are the best in doing such! I couldnt afford a longer lens, so I guess I'll have to settle with mine :-(. I specially like your other moon shot (cat's smile?) , Actually I took the full moon last July end and the result wasnt as good so I never posted it. I admire your works....thanks

Well, the moon is a very bright object. If you were to set your camera to automatic, it would come out over exposed. I use a shorter exposure and adjust the levels on the computer to bring out the most detail.

I don't mind, the scope, mount and tripod came all together.(Though you can also buy telescope components seperately)If memory serves, this setup cost me about $900. You can purchase similar sized scopes for less, but the quality of the optics will not be as good.

There is a telephoto lens available from Sony, but I don't have it yet. This photo was taken with my camera mounted afocally on my Celestron C5 Schmitt-Cassegrain telescope. I have a special mount that places the camera right in front of the eyepiece. Here's a pic of my scope
|
It's the little black one, the white scope in the back is about 6 feet tall! |
