About This was fun, no shutter release (I have to buy one) using the IR remote control on my rebel which has a two second delay before taking the picture. So I had to try and time these. Most of them were missed, either too late or too soon. Out of 60 pictures 15 are decent but about only 5 were really good.

Thanks for the comment. I looked up online "how to take picture of fireworks" and used the one suggestion I read (2 - 4 seconds f8 - f11). The method you suggested is interesting. I will have to wait a year to try it :) With a longer exposure and using the card I would get less shots but the ones I get would certainly be better than the ones I caught too early or late. I would get less shots but the fewer shots would be better.

This is a subject I want to try my hand at when the opportunity arises John. I'm told the way to do it is to have the lense open on time exposure and covered by black card. When the fireworks explode simply remove the card for a second or so.
I might be telling you something you already know but that's what I'm going to try.
Nevertheless getting one shot a brilliant as this deserves congratulations. Very well done.

Thanks for the comment Paul. I took about 60 shots and five came out really good. I used a IR remote control on my Rebel and found it was a lot tougher than I thought. The Rebel when using the remote control has a 2 second delay so the beginning fireworks display I was missing them. I was at 2 sec exp then I upped it to four and tried timing the fireworks. Overall I happy with about 5 shote the other 55 have some decent but mostly shot too late or too early. I realized I have to get a shutter release but it was not bad for my first time trying this kind of subject.

Good one John. It looks like it could be a sea creature. Lou

A perfect fireworks shot, John.
Mine didn't turn out as nicely. :(

What patience, this is really great, one explosion of colour - lovely - could almost be taken for a flower

Good shot, nice and crisp, heavy contrast in color.
