Dear Dr Springmann,
I was wondering when I would receive your standard boiler-plate greeting. I have seen the same polite greeting, with almost the exact same words, sent to so many other people. Looking through the comments you send, it seems you use this template quite a lot. It is worded very nicely, though I generally prefer more spontaneous comments.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on this photo. I thank you in advance for commenting on any further photos I may upload, though I would much prefer if you refrained from advertising your book whilst doing so.
Kind regards, Angelo.

This is our first, but hopefully not last meeting on the pages of "Usefilm", Mr. Villaschi. I read your bio and looked through your entire portfolio back and forth, found, unless I'm mistaken, for BIPs and two SCs. I learned from your bio that although a Brazilian, you live in London, a city I spent the most imporant year of my career in (1969-70), learned to love and visited several times again. At the danger of repeating myself I will state that all your photos show a great sense for the use of light for making pictures, which is the essence of photography, as well as a sense for composition and some irony, that is seen mainly in the captions you gave some of your photos. From all your wonderful photos I decided to comment on this one because more than your other ones I can empathize with the caption you gave it "Shame". I also met the shadow photo you mentioned in your comment on mine. You are, of course, invited to read my bio and pay futher visits to my portfolio. When you read my bio, you will find out that I am a psychoanalyst. I have written a book called "Dialogues with Schizophrenia - the Art of Psychotherapy." Despite its name, it was written with the interested non mental-health professional also in mind. You may see it on www.drspringmann.com on which site the more important issues to pay attention to are Dr. Joyce Mc Dougall's preface (she is a leading figure in the psychoanalytic community) and the story of Adam, the first schizophrenic patient whose psychotherapy is described in the book. In case you would like to read the book, (1.02 MB) please send an e mail to rafael1930@bezeqint.net and I will gladly send it to you at no cost to you. Seveal UF friends have received the book from me in this manner and so far there have been no complaints. In the meantime, I thank you for your very kind words about my ""Autoportrait."" Best regards, Dr. Rafael (Rafi for future communications) Springmann

Go for it, Angelo. I assume you already have. Have you seen the excellent movie, "Smoke", with William Hurt and Harvey Keitel? There's a very touching scene where Hurt's character sees his wife, who has died of cancer, in one of Keitel's photographs. The Keitel character had the curious habit of setting his camera on the corner opposite his smoke shop every day at the same time, to take a picture of his shop, every day at the same time. He did this for years, and kept the photos in albums. There's something about this idea which fascinates me, beyond its obvious literary interest. It would take an obsessive mind to carry out, and I don't have one. Rgds, Svend

Hi Ian,
Thanks for commenting. It's always nice when pictures cause a bit of a debate.
I plan to start doing a little "around my home" series in the future. Actually I think photos to come are slowly going to move from near my workplace, towards my daily journey home, then near there. It's something that's developing and we'll see how it goes.
Cheers! Angelo.

Angelo, how interesting that this appears in your portfolio next to the one we had such a debate about. As if to back up what I was saying, unfortunately, and makes this photo all the more relevant. Ian

Svend,
Thanks for the excellent comment.
I think almost every neighbourhood (and I am not just talking about England, Britain or even Europe) has its share of stupid, ill-informed and rebelious teenagers.
Trouble really happens when those stupid, ill-informed and rebelious teenagers are actually thirty-something years of age and can organise themselves around a "cause" such as "immigrants" or "asylum seekers" or other "scroungers".
It is only because I have been training myself to look for details that I noticed this. It is kind of hidden behind a public phone box and someone has clearly (and rightly) taken exception and gone over it with reddish paint, trying to erase it.

Crikey, what kind of a neighbourhood do you live in, Angelo? It seems you've begun a documentary photo series with the theme "Just Around the Corner From My House...". This is another strong photo that concentrates only on the essential. I'd like to see more of the turbulence in your 'hood! Rgds, Svend

Jorge,
I think it's "trash in the brain".
The title should have been "Wall of shame". It's not too late to change, but I prefer to leave as is.
Thanks for your compliment.
