About Dan Lightner Photography
This image was taken from about 4 inches away.Using a 25mm extension tube.
The common name comes from the manner in which they hold up the forepart of the body, with its enormous front legs, as though in an attitude of prayer. They might also be called "preying mantes" for they are carnivorous, eating other insects. The body is elongate with the front legs modified into prominent grasping organs that catch and hold prey. The wings are well developed, but mantids commonly remain quiet in one place until another insect comes into reach. However, they sometimes cautiously stalk their prey. This one is only a baby 1 1/2 inches long..

You got some nice macros Dan.
Got that 50mm 1.8 too, must get that extension tube. But need the money.
anyhow, got a new camera from the shop and this time my kitlens is of extremely good quality.
Much sharper than the first one.I had to complain a lot about soft pics and sensordamage till eventualy, the shop replaced my camera with kitlens by a new one,and this time its all perfect.

Outstanding wildlife shot. Brilliant colors and sharp in the right place. It certainly is not easy to take pictures in this particular field of photography and to produce such quality.
Congratulations on this fine photographic achievement. Great!

Gustav

No Kevin , I use a 25mm extension tube , since I started using it I cant live without it. It's the best turns any lens into a macro without loosing sharpness, like you do with close up lenses.
Dan.

Wow you got such a great pictures. This one is one of my favorites. You have the insect in it's natural habitat. Keep up the good work.
Just wondering, do you use a reverse ring with your 50mm??

Excellent capture.
Very crisp detail on the mantis and the colors in this picture complement each other throughout.
Very nice dof, again complementing the entire image.
Dan your portfolio represents quality.
I think that you are a bit of a perfectionist.
This is what your portfolio tells me anyways.
My complements.
