Hi Phil.. You are right about the being prepared bit.. because I had my camera, lens, flash etc prepared near the birdhouse. But I really didn't expect such a lucky shot :).. 'Chance favors the prepared photographer' - Ansel Adams (paraphrase of Lui Pasteur).

The fact that you were with your camera at precisely the right time, aiming the lens in the right direction with good exposure values and focussing tells me there was more than just luck in creating this wonderful image.
