Thanks for the story Stephen. Having seen these critters up close and observing the power in their pincers I can imagine how excruciating it must have been. Hows that line go in Alien "in space no-one can hear you scream" In your case, "in camping grounds everyone can hear your scream" :)

whoa..you know, David this is why we shouldn't click our bics based on thumbnails alone. i passed this up several times last night because the thumb was so deceptively simple. Up close and intimate, this is a winner! Your control of your camera makes me bite my knuckle with envy and the way he dangles there in white space makes all the more chilling the comment by Stephen Bowden about his colleague inadvertantly wearing one of these things on his ear lobe. Great work and i am totally certain that your superiors at CSIRO Division of Entomology were really sorry to see you leave. Regards: kat~

Hi David, with a sting at one end and pincers at the other this centipede is a bit of an animal. I woke up one night at a campsite to blood curdling screams - one of my colleages was sat bolt upright with one of these dangling from his ear. I shudder everytime I see one now lol Great photo though ;-)

Great shot David!! Spot on with the sharpness right on its head (or tali?)!! Is this a centepede? Whatever it is it is certainly alien to most of us!! And thankfully so!! :) Well done mate! Cheers Alan

Very crisp and colorful as well. I can't even begin to perceive how you captured this. I do like the crispness faded to softness Fantastic job
