About The two drops of poison on the fangs belong to a Sydney funnel web spider, shot at close range without a safety net. THE deadliest spider in the world. I dont mind admitting I was shaking quite a bit while photographing this beastie.

Makes me shake just looking at it. No limits to the length you will go to for your art. Think it was worth it. Is it missing part of it's limb? Not sure that this would make it any safer!

Where did you get a photo of my ex-wife? Without getting to the technical merits, I rate it a 7 for sheer bravery.

Hi Alan
Ive got to tell you I was bloody petrified.
Holding a camera 20cm from this guy.
No gloves, no protection, while a guy next to me thumped it on the head to annoy it!!!!!
Yeah we actually had to stir it up to get the poison dripping out!!!!!!!!
Its not local to Canberra, someone brought it up from the coast for identification!!!!!!!!
ps are you still in UK or back in OZ?

Jeez mate!! You've got guts!! This is a beautiful specimen I must admit. Where did you find him? Awesome shot and I CAN see the droplets of venom AND all the 8 legs!
Spectacular!!
Cheers
Alan

Hi Armando
Thanks for all your comments.
THe 'leg' you refer to is actually one of the spiders pedipalps.
It has all 8 legs intact.
The legs and pedipalps look odd due to the shallow depth of field.
Cheers

DAVID: ARE INCREDIBLE THE DROPS OF POISON THAT APPEAR IN THEIR FANGS(QUELICEROS) OF THE SPIDER AND IS IT ALSO SEEN THAT SHE LOST PART OF ONE FROM THEIR FRONT PAWS TO THE RIGHT OF THE SCREEN, OR IS EFFECT OF THE PICTURE?. I DID WORK MANY YEARS AGO IN THE CENTER OF HEALTH OF LIMA PERU WITH SPIDERS AND SNAKES, EXTRACTING THEM THE POISON TO MANUFACTURE SERUM. CONGRATS FOR THIS PIC AND THANKS FOR SHARE

Great! if you didnt notice the poison then nobody else did either :(
That was the whole aim of the shot :( :(
I was just trying to show people what a brave tough guy I am.
PS I was joking 2

My untrained eyes didn't see those two drops, or rather I thought they were part of the fangs. Not really an expert on spiders, you see.

PS: I was just joking.

All of its legs are in the shot.
Start counting.
p.s the shot is about the two drops of poison on the fangs.
One bite and your history without the antivenine
Check out the final effect in phase 2.

General effects:
? numbness around the mouth and spasms/
fasciculation of the tongue
? nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain,
acute gastric dilatation
? profuse sweating, salivation, lacrimation,
piloerection
? severe dyspnoea as a result of noncardiogenic
pulmonary oedema
? mental status can rapidly progress from
confusion to irrationality or coma
? hypertension, tachycardia and vasoconstriction
(hypotension may occur later)
? local and generalised muscle fasciculation
and spasm which may be prolonged and
violent (facial, tongue or intercostal
muscles, trismus) and difficult to manage.
Phase 2 is characterised by:
? hypotension
? hypoventilation and apnoea
? continuing acute noncardiogenic pulmonary
oedema
? coma, and, finally
? irreversible cardiac arrest.

And why did you bite off one of its legs? Poor thing.
