excellent shot!!
in my opinion, the eye of the first guy on the right is disrturbing .. i would crop it, then there will be only one eye attracting the vierw's eye.

well done Paul,
ned

i have to admit i'm a bit baised towards this picture, as i am actually in it. I'm the fourth member from the right. But either way, the quality of this picture is outstanding. GO BLUEGUARD.

Very nice DOF and composition. I don't however, like the blurring that seems to be on their faces. It results in a loss of textural detail, which I think would look nicer. Love the shorter little boy being in the line to break it up and make it more interesting.

An excellent image...I really like the filter effect you used...the eye is focused imediately on the eye looking at the camera...great work.

Eric Peterson   {K:4419} 3/27/2004
Very nice composition. The limited color palette, DOF, and soft focus effect really work well. I especially like the inclusion of the one shorter cadet in the line breaking up the uniform pattern created by the others.

Awesome composition, Paul! The filter effect removes all distractions, and really solidifies the straightforward nature of this composition. The lack of emotion exhibited by all of these young men also adds to the "assembly line" mentality of a march. Very nice work, Paul. ..Brad

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 3/26/2004
Very well captured. The repetiveness, only broken by the smallest kid in line (adding the appeal and the tension it needs) is excellently composed (nice diagonals and lines to a off photo vanishing point) Very well exposed, and and incredible DOF with the 300mm zoom @ f4. The background and the space on top seemed a bit excessive at first, but works quite well looking closer. I find the line through the eyes (on average) just above the horizontal centerline a bit troublesome. Although there's nothing wrong with the composition, I find it somehow slightly off balance. Can't put my finger on it though. (maybe that is exactly what I find appealing about this shot, it's near perfect, if you know what I mean) *very* well exposed. Awesome shot.

Cheers,

Hugo

Lou Dina   {K:12194} 3/26/2004
Great shot Paul. I'm just curious how this would look if you were to either crop on the right so that the first person's eye is not showing, or defocus his face. This would lead the viewer to the person in the center, whose eye is more in focus. Not sure it would make it any better, but it would be a fun experiment. Regardless, a great shot. Lou

gorgeous shot, great pattern right light and dof, nice blue cold colors for the matter, the background brown seems to be less suitable though
