I think this is a great waterfall picture but I think the left hand side is a bit distracting. As you say the squirrel is a bit small. By cropping as shown below you get the sloping image on the left pointing towards the waterfall and the bonus of a bigger squirrel looking in the same direction. I wonder why he's looking at the waterfall? Regards, Graham.

This reminds me of the Yosemite mist trail. I'm not sure having the squirrel centered horizontally works all that well. I think using the squirrel to give perspective to the height of the falls would have worked better. That would entail changing this to a portrait format vs. a landscape. As it is with squirrels I'm sure you didn' t have too much time to size up the situation before he scurried off.

Hi Andrej, this is a fantastic photo, just the way it is. The colors, the squirrel, the water mist in the air, everything is superb, I wouldn't change a thing.
I did miss your question indeed. My theory is that only through experimenting your can determine what works best, which filter or combination of filters. This is based on my experience with my old analog cameras. There I used either or both, depending on the circumstances. For example, I started to be very attentive to the reflections on cars, windows, mirrors, etc. - in this case I used a polarizing filter to reduce the reflection. Up in the mountains, I would use a UV filter almost all the time.
On my present Canon S50, I cannot use any filter, unless I buy and attach a mechanical frame, but then in addition of spending $80 I cannot use the lens cover. So I am waiting and hoping that in about a year the price of the digital SLR's will come down and then I will have a new camera on which to use and experiment with filters.
I am not too much bothered by not having a filter now, because I can adjust the lack thereof with PS7.
Best regards, Alex

Andrej, I think this picture can stand on its own merits. The vastness of the ground squirrel's surroundings make this photo. Regards, Jimmy

I get your point, but i don't know what would look better. At this way you can see the beauty of the nature, but there are so many interesting things to look at. The only thing i can say for sure, i had to laugh when i saw you taliking about "her" maybe it is a "him" or just a "photo"!! I don't think i can help you with this one, i don't know it myself this time eather. As it is now i think it looks wondefull! Greets, Lex

It is the kind of shot that I wished to have made myself. Fantastic and this squirrel you owe him a bag of nuts as token of reward. I would cut of the left dark tree and in PS reduce the slight overexposure to make the water have more grey tones. As I do not have the original I can only change the composition as an example. Regards, Rob.

Another fantastic landscape photo and I agree with Hugo and Kristina...no need to change anything,...you have done perfect work and I am waiting for more...:))) have a nice day long...enjoy...Orchid

Haha... you made me laugh, Andrej, because I didn't understand what you were talking about in your comment! I looked at this beautiful nature photo and felt "oh, such wonderful capture and so great light and composition". And you talked about "her". (?) Only AFTER I saw your little squirrel! :-)) It's very easy to not see it because it's so small and has same colour as the rock. So I don't think it works that well as a wildlife photo, but as a nature photo it's perfect! AND to see the squirrel after a little while adds a really great extra plus!

Hi Andrej, Impressive shot! I don't think anything is missing, and the subject is based in duality. The way you've posted (and composed) this photo, the prime subject is the waterfall. (I only spotted the squirrel after a second look....) If you meant to make the squirrel the main subject, I think you'd better zoom in on the animal a bit more. The duality, however is very cool; the forces of nature, the power of the waterfall and the scenery with the trees on one side, the softness and lovable squirrel on the other hand.
I like the somewhat slow shutterspeed and the spray of the water. I think the photo is very well composed. Well done, my friend!
Cheers,
Hugo
