beautiful photo, Andrej. what about the dark spot: maybe crop it away, just a little. or you could try the shadow/highlight function in Photoshop CS. (although i tried it with your picture, but without satisfying results

beautiful Andrej..I like it as is but PS is the modern Droom and I recommend learning it because a few tweaks here and there can make or break a pic. This would be very easy to 'fixup'..thanks for your comments roger

You really did a wonderfull job against the light capturing the colours. Wonderfull silent photo. I as a viewer can feel the silence that ( i think was there ) at 1100 feet. And about the darkness at the left i think you should photoshop it a bit and brighten it up, but not to much so you don't get the other parts out of colour. I did it by select a piece of the dark part, "cut via layer" and than brighten it all +10 up. And i also crop a bit of the most left darkness. Tell me what you think!! Greets, Lex

Again, a very beautiful composition and so wonderful mood! I don't know what suggestion I could come up with about the dark area... You have already got a bunch of good advices, and personally I think it's great like this too. But I have a quite light screen, so for me it's not black and I see the details quite clear.
I love the freshness in this photo, and that water looks so beautiful with the reflections in it!

Excellent composition with great perspective and naturality. I agree with Hugo about the dark part on the right. It has the right amount of detail and brightening it would just decrease the pleasant, natural feeling of this shot. Leave it as it is, its' great! Best regards, Paolo

I tell something I have been liking a lot lately is to shoot in manual get a dark contrast image so you will have a blue sky. I use a polarizer and exposer composition into the negative usually around a -2/3. It would work with this one also. I would then copy the background into a layer. Then I would screen or curve that layer lighter to make the dark side better. Then with the history brush I would paint back in the darker and more blue sky and lighter side. You can also lasso and select the dark side and put that into a layer or mask and curve that into being lighter. If you have any questions e-mail and I will be glad to help you out. Nice image and capture.

Beautiful scenary, lovely colours and lighting. I like it a lot When I saw the thumbnail I first I thought that the spot on the left is indeed very dark and somewhat distracting. Now, looking at the larger size, I must say that I do not mind the dark part at all. It is just natural shadow and you can clearly see a tree and other detail of the landscape. However you can easily get it just a little lighter adjusting the brightness and contrast in PS. Just one click on the area and you select it all using the magic wand tool. Anyway, I think this is a great capture Best regards and thanks for comment

Yes, this is a great quality photograph! Excellent photo! P.S. Yes, we have been scanning on our photos, and, yes, one of our cameras is an old SLR. Thank you for the tip! We're going to see if we can get our pictures put on CD. We live in a town of 600 people. The nearest town that accepts film is an hour and half drive away, and they have to send the film out for development. We live on an island. Pretty remote, but we'll see what they can do! This is such a beautiful photo you have here, with good clarity and color! Carolyn

Wonderfull picture Andrej! About the darker left side, well you could just crop a part of it away but then you would also have to crop of a upper or lower horizontal part. So to me just leave it, the eye is drawn into the beautifull sight over the river, not directly to the left. Greets Tim.

Hello Andrej, You should leave everything as is in this photo. I have lived in and traveled all around this part of our country(USA). That said, I can say that your photograph captured a true vision of a small part of the majestic landscapes visible throughout this area. Beautiful, scene shot. No PS needed. Best wishes, Jimmy

This is a most beautiful image with the lakes and mountains your local scenery makes me envious. The rocks lake and mountains makes a great compositon but I think the dark bits detract from the image. The rocks now lead into the image with my cropped version. What do you think?

Hi Andrej : Very picturesque photograph, maybe if you cropped of the left hand side, and lowered the top, a little , the picture might be improved......however its a nice picture as it is....!!!

ps, Andre, i just read your description which agrees with my thoughts. It amazes me on this site how most everyone says lovely without any critical thought, even when you asked for it but anyway, i think the dark area can be adjusted in ps as well, but then bringing it out to much will disturb the balance. My final conclusion, this is an attractive if not unique image, just with some exposure faults that in todays world can be adjust, thank god. Good luck.

the background mountain / sky is very pale due mostly to the sun, but i think the forground has to washed out an appearance as well, to brown, although the image is nice and sharp, perhaps some ps work will improve this image.

Andrej, thanks for your comment! I feel flattered.....;) The composition is very good; well balanced, and apart from a slight red wash, I like it alot! I don't think you should do anything with the darkness on the left; it still has quite alot of detail in it, and I see no way in preventing it without overexposing the other parts. Besides, due to the details and contrast in the dark parts, it adds an element of transition from woods into the open to the photo, which is very nice. The only way to circumvent the shadowy parts is to wait for the sun to turn..... I see no harm in tweaking the levels in Photoshop, it brings back the feeling that was originally there.... If you change nothing that cannot be achieved in a darkroom, you still use your original work....
Cheers,
Hugo

Ok so bare in mind I am new to this also... But you could try a couple of things. In PS you could create a level's adjustment and adjust right for the bright area. Make a copy level of the background and adjust it for the dark area. Then use the layer mask to mask out the bright area. Then when you flatten the image will have been adjusted for the bright and the dark. I have attached a photo that I did it on. I will include both, because it was a really easy one to practice with. Another option is to use the gradient tool set to darken or color burn (experiment with both and opacity). Not as useful in this scene, but in others you can make it work like a ND Grad filter.
