Part of a self-assignment to make photographs for Hanukkah. I borrowed this beautiful crystal dreydle from a friend (thanks, Jodie!) in order to photograph it. Lighting is mostly from a flashlight held to the right and somewhat behind the dreydle. The highlights at bottom are from our living room ceiling light, reflected in the glass coffee table top on which the dreydle rests. I like the way this turned out, except for the dust which shows up on the shaft and top of the dreydle body. I tried cleaning it carefully, but this was the best I could do. Anyone have any ideas to reduce the dust? Thanks!
Yes it turned out very nice, except for the lil' specs of dust (but don't wory, they dont detract to much from the overall goodness). I like the way the lights and reflections show. And the crystal is just so clear: I was looking at the letters on the opposing facets: the one on the farther side looks almost as good as the front. Excellent work! A favorite. Regards, Hanna
Thanks for your comments! Dan - good idea about what to use to keep the dust down, as well as your composition suggestion - I'll try them out. Also, the highlights are reflections in the glass top of a coffee table. They are from a chandelier-type hanging lamp directly above the table. The lamp is on a dimmer, and I dimmed it quite a bit to blanace with the lighting from the flashlight. I was surprised to find that the flashlight seems to be "whiter" than the room light (even with the dimmer at maximum).
Hey Steve I think this shot came out really good, You might try cleaning it and using some sort of anti static agent on it, maybe (fabric softener) as for the composition its good , but try tilting your camera a little to get the dreydle to run corner to corner it will add a bit more impact to the shot. The highlights are fantastic was it shot on a mirror?
