About This image was selected for ?January? in the 2003 University of Nebraska Botanical Garden and Arboretum Campus Landscape Calendar Contest. Submissions were to be 8x10 B&W photos of campus scenes taken throughout the year 2002. Four submissions were allowed; three of mine were selected for inclusion in this year's calendar. Although the judges selected ?Footbridge? as ?Best of Show,? this one was my favorite. I was ?inspired? by some of the winter-stem images of Chicago photographer Harry Callahan.

Pure Zen perfection... I am very late to the party here, but let me add my congratulations on your so well-deserved honor. This image is perfectly simple and simply perfect, one of my very favorite kinds! You rock, Harlan!

I very much like the simplicity of this one,the ultimate contrast, but it keeps the viewer's eye for quite some time and that is what matters, fine image Harlan,Regards,Rod.

Callahan indeed!! Saw the thumbnail a couple of days ago and came back to it after thumbing through a book of Callahan this evening. Worthy inspiration and very, very well done Harlan.

the lines are like the stark, simple lines of sound in winter --- this is as if it were the sheet music for a symphony about winter

stark, simple, pure...

this is certainly better...

I agree with you and prefer this one as well. Simple, elegant and engaging. The cropping on bottom edge worries me a little, but a photo has to end somewhere, right?

The first time I saw this photo, it was hard to leave and when I finally did, I forgot to write a comment. Ever since, I have come back here many times and I left again without writing anything about it. I just couldn't, as I realised that whatever I would have written woudn't have been enough to describe the beauty I saw in it and the feelings that it gave me. So, I won't even try. I only want to say that it is very special photo and that I will come back here to see it many more times.
My number one and in my favourites!

Very nice graphic form, just a little bit of detail to let us know what it truly is. It makes sense to me that you would prefer this with your passion for abstracts, but I also understand how the footbridge was selected as the winning photo. Congratulations on the recognition of your photography.

This is so cool ... reminds me of the snow we get here, and you see those little twiggy twigs poking out and it goes all crunchy crunchy under your feet ... heehee.... this is a splendid abstract and I love it!!!
Yours, Cherie p.s. you're such an inspiration!

This is not only simple but great, it is also some achievement: try to get a picture like this just right, technically speaking.
