ah, this should go with last post...forgot to add it:
i didn't try because i felt this depth of field caught the effect i wanted. that effect is loneliness and defeat. all that the tack is thinking about is the situation, how his dreams have been shattered and that is causing him to think about nothing else, thus the blurriness all around him. does this make more sense?
