Ben, such a creative and excellent image. I recognise the vertical texture after you mentioned that was what it was.
Thank you for your kind comment today. Yes I 'play' with my photos. :) I'm so new to PS and just got PS 7 installed, and I do play as a child with a paint box! Jim can attest to this. I hope to become more disciplined now I have 7 and really learn the program. With photographer/artists such as yourself and Jim I have great teachers to learn from.

Hi JiM,
I believe we could work together very well. I admire your quality to put put into words, which I don't have. The image of Magritte, in attachment, is engraved into my mind since long ago. I wish, I had the strengh of this artist, who I admire the most.
Stay in contact , my good friend, we can surenly motivate each other. Surrealisme isn't dead, that's a fact. Sorry for my Englisch.

All the best , Ben

Ben,

I saw this for the first time yesterday on PN and had made a mental note (always suspect) to revisit and leave a comment.

The thing which struck me immediately was how this scene extends friend René's frequent theme on the unreliablity of visual images. In this case, the "real" person (perhaps the only female member of "The Blue Man Group?"), is partially shrouded from view by a semi-transparent curtain. But she holds a photo of a sleeping face -- the part of the human anatomy we most closely identify with personality. The photo itself is also behind the veil, but the transparency increases for the face, as if by sheer force of personality, she is projecting herself into our "normal" reality. Then, again, perhaps she is holding a window that pierces the viel of transparency and reveals what is really behind? Or a mirror, that reflects the visage of some sleeping onlooker? Or maybe she's only dreaming? It's infinitely ambiguous, which is what makes it so fascinating.

I just discovered your suggestions and you jpg for "Presence of Time." You've been busy, Ben! I'm immensely grateful.

You make two important suggestions which I completely overlooked -- blurring the horizon and repositioning the "fish-on-a-stick" icons so that they recede toward the horizon. This second won't be simple -- I''ll have to re-render the background plane and its shadows -- but definitely worth doing. I'm not as sure about the third point, darkening the sky. Most of my images are extremely dark and for me part of the charm of this one is the bright sky which confers an unusually (for me) upbeat atmosphere.

Again, thanks for the time and interest. I'm honored and very appreciative. Finally, I located a jpg of the "Black Magic" painting I mentioned in regard to the "Nymphs." I also see some amazing parallels to the visual concept of "Transparency." He was one cool dude!

All my best,
Jim

Just flicking back through your other stuff and saw this, what a great concept, I can see it put to a lot of uses, reminds me of the way a lot of the printer companies market. How did you get your vertical banding Ben?
