It's funny, I'd never thought of the cello in feminine terms before, and this picture, for some reason, looks rather masculine to me. I think I've thought of music for the cello as rather masculine, but I'm thinking of Bach, in particular his suites for unaccompanied cello. The cello has such a deep voice, so full and beautiful, I guess I associated it with masculinity. But the shape, like the guitar, is quite feminine. Strange.
Are you familiar with the music of Astor Piazzolla? Yo Yo Ma (cellist) has a beautiful CD of his music (Piazzolla's music) played on cello, piano, guitars, bandoneon, and so on.

hi Jim - i had to come back to this as i didn't know how i felt at the time - i realised it was the cello that didn't do it for me - mainly because i'm not a big collector of classics - but the overall feeling i get is soothing and pleasing to look at - your backgrounds as ever are out of this world - now if there was a fender... robin

Wonderful creation, Jim! Vibrant colors and a well defined cello. You know, my daughter is a cellist! I love it. Regards! ..... Lucas

nicely composed, that is, the placement of the cello in the frame, or should I say canvas?

Cool treatment Jim... I may have considered keeping the cello's color as it's natural brown to add some contrast. I like your comments -- I consider myself to have similar curves, but more along the lines of a double bass. %-) Rubens would have loved me. I was born too damn late...

Jim; while artistically this is excellent and very well done, I must admit a strong preference for your "squarist" works that are done in the warm colors. Although the colors are beautiful, I still prefer the warm ones you've done with stringed instruments-- maybe I just associate music w/ warmth? Nice work!

Everyone here including myself who find the cello somewhat sensual must see this movie..."Tous les matins du monde"... "All the Mornings of the World". It is set in the 17th century and called a viol, but it is the cello if I'm not mistaken. even if I am ... loved the movie, love the cello! The way you crafted the cello itself Jim is just fabulous. Beautiful blue.

Well Jim, All of the conversation here about woman, curves, splender, tender embracing, necks, emotion, bent, the act of lowering into bed, imagining the sucductive sounds of the cello and violin, I was finding myself a little excited, then Rhonda threw in my favorite color "Plaid" Well that was about the clincher for me! Had to get a hold of myself, well not litterally! Anyway! The color harmonize here very well, the cubed look is wonderful, and it is a jazzy little number! Great stuff Jim. Looking forward to more!

I like that you "bent" the neck of the cello, but cutting off the stand deprives me of a giveaway clue that this is a cello and not just a voloptuous viola. Maybe consider breaking up the geometry of the cello even more - the thing that holds the strings perhaps?

As I was looking through some lesson plans I found this example of image grammar: The old man, feeble and stiff, tenderly embraced his beloved cello. A single tear slid down his wrinkled face. His arthritic hands shook as the bow quivered back and forth. He wore an out-of-style jacket, an old fashioned plaid. His shaggy eyebrows glistened with sweat, and his sideburns grew overgrown and wild. His cello, a piece of art, was old and had clearly been used. Decades of polishing made the wood shiny.
In a scratchy, weak voice, the old man cursed his hands for being so stiff and sore. He suddenly gasped as a spasm of pain swept through his arm. Exhausted, he gently laid his cello in the soft velvet case and lowered himself onto his bed.
As he lay there, memories of his childhood started to stir in his mind. He remembered coming home after school and practicing the cello for hours. He remembered playing solos in his high school orchestra, and then later in life playing with world known orchestras. Smiling gently, he brought his cello, his life-long friend and partner, close to him and fell asleep.
Love the blues, they are the perfect shade of blues to create emotion (at least for me). In my favorites!
