Not a bad portrait, but I think you might do better to keep working to eliminate the modern looking background to give it more of a 'period' feel. Have you tried it in sepia? By the way, and no reflection on the photo, but if the title refers to the Buffalo Soldiers of the late 1800's U.S. Army - they were the first African American cavalry regiments, and so were all black. :)
