About Photographed upside down with the liquid pouring out of the glasses which were stuck to a rotating mirror with super glue. FURTHER INFO:- I started off firstly with one glass and built up from there. All the glasses were completely filled to the brim with liquid and capped by atmospheric pressure using old pieces of plastic cut from butter tubs and all attached to pieces of string. The whole ensemble was very carefully turned upside down. With the camera ready on a tripod in one hand and the six pieces of string in the other, one yank and a quick click and voila you have a photo and wet feet. Must admit it took me a long time and hundreds of gallons of water and a flooded garage to crack it, but I think the exercise was worth the trouble. QED

*** The 1/30,000th sec exposure is the duration of the flash, camera shutter speed was about 1/125th, and yes I did break quite a few glasses, good job there was a ready supply in a local Oxfam shop

Great work! One of the best i have seen. It is also one of the most difficult shot to take! You have done a marvelous job and i guess you have took long hours for just this fantastic shot. The colour and contrast is good. Excellent composition and lighting as well. I somehow love the reflection and they are really rich in colour! Best of the Best! 7+++++

Best regard Joe! Hope to see more of your spectacular shot again! Cheers!

At first I thought this was a really cool shot and I wondered how you did it.
As I started to read the description of the process I was a little bummed you were telling me?taking the mystery out of it.
By the time I had finished reading I had goosebumps on my neck.
I am simply amazed.
Bravo on the pursuit of the process!
Bravo on the finished product!
Well done!

I love the color and the fun of this image. Thanks for sharing how you did it! What a job! Would be interesting to see you try something like it with an expensive Scotch bottle (save the scotch, though!) or wine bottle. Would look great in a contemporary house or apartment.

simon wootton   {K:2542} 7/10/2003
fantastic idea and superb timing. I only wish I had the imagination, skill and the patience to come up and execute an amazing shot like this. A worthy photo of the day.
This is not a criticism, maybe the mirror wasn't big enough, but you could have tried for the full seven colours of the rainbow.

Ursula I Abresch   {K:6515} 7/10/2003

I understand everything but the rotating mirror part. Not sure I understand what you mean about that. What was it rotating on, how fast,is that what caused the ripple effect. Drawing a blank on this one. It truly is a fantastic shot, well worth the effort and wet feet.

  0

Bobbie C.   {K:1425} 7/10/2003
Not only amazing because of the brilliant idea and execution, but it's beautiful! Congrats! Thanks so much for sharing the how-to. (Subha, I think the 1/30,000 second is the flash duration, not the shutter speed.)

  0

John Hatziemmanouil   {K:40580} 7/10/2003
Oh my! This is great! The result from the fast shutter speed is great!

  0

Subha Pindiproli   {K:10108} 7/10/2003
1/30,000th of second, are you sure.. must be 1/3,000th of a second. Could you re-confirm. I know high end Nikon and Canon fastest speed is 1/8000th of a second. your image is brilliant.. reminds me of another photographer i don't know if it is you, who took similar shots by shooting glowing bulbs with a marble and capturing that instantaneous. Also reminded me of another image of a guy who posted on psig, where he triggered a flash based upon sound. Why Sound. He shot the image of this wine glass dropping onto a glass table in total darkness. When the wine glass hit the glass table it made a breaking noise, which triggered the flash strobe. The camera shutter was already turned on.. keep it up.. and since i have given you more ideas.. i am sure you will come up with more..

You have acheived some real technical brilliance, following through an equally brilliant idea. THe varied colors really make this one, a splash of rainbow to cheer up our lives. However, and what many have neglected, other than the motion of the fluids, therre are those reflections. And aren't they sublime. You have spoilt us for eye candy choice. Thanks for sharing this one. Did it take many takes?
