About This is a photo taken many years ago of one of the last live steam engines in use. This is 4-6-6-4 heavey pull engine. Instead of "double heading" with two engines and crews, this unit could pull heavy loads with a single unit. Steam power in the USA went out of use in the late 1950's-early 1960's.
