About Squawfish or Ptychoceilus oregonensis is another scrap fish. The Game Dept changed the name to Pike Minnow so as not to offend anyone. To me its still a squawfish.

Ours don't quite get that big but still several pounds. Below Chief Joe Dam there is a bounty on squawfish. Game Dept pays for each fish over 12 inches. They say they prey on salmon smolt and by reducing the native fish they can have more of the hatchery salmon and steelhead return to our streams.

Yep, we live in a day and age were you can't offend anybody LOL! Found this tid bit about them on the Encyclopaedia Britannica website. The largest species, the Colorado River squawfish, or white salmon (P. lucius), may grow to about 1.5 metres (5 feet) with a reported weight of about 36 kilograms (79 pounds); because of changes in its habitat, this species has declined significantly and is considered endangered.
