Pump it up... pump, pump, pump, it up... it up! Pump, it, it it... Pump It Up!!! I walked into the lounge today at Lame Deer... and was hit with this: "Oh! Mr. Loy! Try this meat!" "What meat?" "This meat! It is delicious!" I looked... and asked, "What kind'a meat is it?" "Just eat it! It's meat!" "Nooooo...... I want to know what type of meat... I will eat it, but I want to know what I am eating." "Heart!!!" "What kind of heart?" "Heart! You know, the heart that pumps the blood heart!" "I know that... but the heart of what animal?" "Deer!" ... so I took a bit... "You gotta put salt on it!" "Why? What's wrong with it?" "Nothing.... (giggle) But you have to eat it with salt and a bit of onion." So I took my slice of deer heart and sprinkled a tad of salt on it... and added a touch of onion... and went my way... A minute later I was in class with two students watching me. Neither one of them wanted to try the bit. I looked them in the eye, picked up the slice of heart… and bit in….
I do not like heart. I never tasted it before that moment… yet, I can tell you… I do not like heart. It was tough and rubbery. I can and will and do… eat a hunk of beef steak raw. And when I say raw… I mean, “Ripped from the haunch of a live and screaming beast!”… But, in this case… the heart was tough and rubbery and……… cold. It had been cooked? The night before. The salt and onion did not help. I did not dislike the taste of the thing… but I HATED the texture of the slice. I cannot do chewy…….
