Hmhmhmh, well, that's cunning :p :p
Now they are not standing there with books because there is only snow on the pavement, whole hills of snow :p In winter rather closed places with second-hand books exist - I mean small shops or stands at railway stations :p, the open ones appear again when there is less snow ;)
But yeah, I guess stands with second hand books is a very Slavic thing, we have plenty of this, especially in Poland, while in neighboring countries I haven't seen such, or very few :p Dunno why :p
