About Was shooting for the White Dahlia (posted this morning), i spotted this little insect, i think it is a honey suckling mosquito about less than a centimeter in size. This is the best i got .. I have been inspired by "Mark Plonsky" for his fine macro works on insects................This picture was taken yesterday.. and sky was overcast and i had to work in lower light conditions.. Under sunny conditions it would have been slightly better..

Subha, frankly I don't know if this is a fly or a mosquito. Either way , it's a great shot! Focus is slightly in front, but doesn't detract. Auto focusing with the coolpix is kinda iffy and manual is hard due to the small LCD.

Nice work Shubha, Even though you mention that the lighting was bad.. I do see that the image is well exposed and sharp. I tend to agree about the DOF.. A smaller aperture might have been better.. Thanx for the comments on my photo..

Subha, this is excellent, very good colour and detail. A shame the DOF is a little shallow, but otherwise this is really beautiful, especially on the wing.

I'm sure Mark would be flattered! Fantastic clarity from digital. Colours are spot on and the dof is just great. I love these type of shots because I can't do them!

Irrespective of adverse photographic conditions it has come out very well, really well. Now its your turn to decide who would get the credit crown, you or your cam? I personally think that the diffused light helped you a lot, bright sun and hard shadows might have spoiled the dream like atmosphere....afterall seeing is believing.

Beautiful macro shot. You should be proud considering the not so perfect conditions. I look forward to seeing more of your work when the sun allows you better DOF.

Nice catch Subha. I am pleased that you view me as worthy of being a mentor. I believe this is a fly rather than a mosquito. But, please keep in mind that while I know a thing or two about taking their pictures, I don't know that much about the bugs themselves. I agree with Bikas about using very small apertures (large F values) for these high magnification macros (and macros in general). I am much less eager to embrace the ISO400 advice though, because with digital camera such as yours and mine, it would introduce to much noise. I shoot all of my macros at ISO50.

Good capture, Subha. Well done. But what I see a bit shalow focus... perhaps you were on Program mode. What I suggest is to pull mode dial at Aperture Priority and set at f:11 & ISO 400, you may get good result. Also, it is nice to see that you claimed as apprentice of Mark, a good tribute to express. Nice gesture.
