And your eyes and your brain of course are connected to your camera and tell it what EV is best under the current lighting conditions, and also what are the possible combinations of aperture and shuetter speed, and which one of them best suits your need for the wished DoF.
OK, whatever you say. Call Hasselblad and tell them that there is no need for light metering and all the useless gear they put on their cameras, and if you give me the specifications for the direct interface from your brain to your camera, I will be the first to implant a USB unit in my mind.
Marana, you did bother reading and understanding some basic things, or should I assume that you hold yourself for such a great natural born artist that you don't have to comprehend first some few and crystal clear principles in the working ways of photography? If you didn't bother about that, then OK... continue using "your brain".
Cheers!

Well, Nick, my light metering systems are my eyes, (and my brain, of course), and, believe me, I consult -sort of speak- myself :) About the cheap explanation: I guess is too cheap for you to buy it ? Take it for granted, what else can I say... Regards, Marana.

You mean... you don't consult your light metering systems but just "try out whatever it will be", Marana?
And BTW, my friends do also change settings but it is not a real deal to check back and re-adjust them. That's only pressing some few buttons, except of course if we are too lazy to just press them.
I really couln't even imagine such a cheap "explanation".
Cheers!

Nick, thank you for your interest in my photo :) There is also a glass in front of those roses, it was a paper dress made by a student, exposed in a window. And the sun was shining on the glass, and I don't have a polarisation filter. About overexposure: it was my first shot that day, I didn't checked out the camera settings, just turned it on and shot. After that, I took maybe 10 other shots, with different settings. BTW : whenever I take my camera, my friends want to try it, and they are changing my settings, one of them changed the exposure compensation settings... Have a nice weekend ! Marana

The original is really horrible as a photo, Marana. But you did manage to make something out of it. The way you altered it shows much directed imagination too - in the sense that you must have had (at least) some vague idea about what the end result should look like - about what was that, that had to be "approximated".
BTW, overexposure in a less strong degree could have brought a nice high key image too. I think that the subject was good for that. But why did you overexpose? Was that false metering, or what did happen?
Cheers?

Guess I can say like you, that was a mistook, overexposed picture :), but I tried to make something out of it. You may see the original one, croped. I kind of like it also... Regards, Marana.

Very schematical in some way and nonetheless photographical in othe ways, Marana. I wonder how you achieved that - was it only camera and lens? Anyway, the good contours on some roses add the drawing-like character, while the gradients add the more photographic character, and both of them seem to harmonize well on the image. The exposure balance seems to have some problems at highlights but this also adds some kinf od tension due to the "expected but unseen" roses there. The good details of the net that covers them enhances the image but the more soft parts bring a bit of that "airy" look.
Good work between all worlds, I would say.
Cheers!
