Hello Armen,
Thanks a lot for this warm reply. Although I strongly believe in dialogue between Armenians and Turks, to say the truth I was still a little worried when I wrote that comment to your page (I thought, would you be prejudiced against me because I'm from turkey?)

Yes there are many people in turkey who accept the genocide. You probably also know about the campaign this year in turkey, "we apologize from the Armenians" campaign, which created quite a debate. Which is better than silence. Much more than the people who explicitly say its a genocide, there are those who say that terrible things have been done to the Armenians, but they dont call it a genocide. They have their reasons for that, but regardless of those reasons, I find a question raised by some (esp. Baskın Oran) important: couldn't we have a better dialogue on the topic if we didn't tackle so much on what to call 1915, if we all accept it was horrible and unjust, is the question.

(Of course I at least have an idea on why it is important for Armenians to call it a genocide or just a bad event; I just wanted to tell about a view from here. As you know there are many different arguments around here. Hrant Dink has struggled so much for all these to be spoken about, and it it mainly thanks to him that Turkey talks about this now)

I remember I had commented before on some of your photos, though not about the genocide. I was then looking at your photos because I was curious about Armenia and I looked at "Images by country" selection. I will be very glad to go on talking about these matters with you. For what is done in turkey, you can take a look at www.hranticinadaleticin.org, it has an english version too (it measn "for hrant for justice").

Warm regards,

zeynep

The lady is protesting the assasination of Hrant Dink, dear Luis. Hrant Dink was an Armenian journalist and activist for peace, he was from Turkey and he indeed was a great person... Killed by Turkish nationalists on 19.01.2007.. It was a crime well known by the state long before it was committed; I can say it's like the state did it on purpose, they wanted Hrant Dink dead.

1500.000 stands for the number of people killed in the Armenian genocide in 1915, +1 stands for Hrant, unfortunately.

Upon the murder of Hrant Dink 100.000 people marched in his funeral. "We are all Hrant, we are all Armenians" has become a widespread slogan against discrimination and nationalism in Turkey since then. We are still protesting the horrible justice system in Turkey which still hasn't called many of the responsible buraucrats to court. (Last weekend we made quite a long chain of people, demanding justice... I wish I could put photos here to usefilm, but I was among the demonstrators without any free hands)

Anyway, anyone can take a look at Google for the details.

Dear Armen, this is heartbreaking but I am happy to see this image here, to keep Hrant's memory. It indeed is a strong image. But I wish you provided people with more information on the situation, because people really don't know about it.

My best wishes,

Zeynep
